Can dentures really help improve my smile?

With proper care, dentures can offer a comfortable and beautiful substitute for your natural teeth. We believe that dentures can not only improve your smile, but also your confidence.

How long do dentures typically last?

Dentures usually last between five and seven years. While dentures do wear down and stain with age, your mouth is also always changing, so adjustments to your dentures are needed from time to time. We recommend yearly denture check-ups.

If you are experiencing any issues with your dentures, please call us to schedule an appointment. Your comfort is important to us!

Will dentures change how I look?

Every pair of dentures is unique and customized for each patient. When determining the right type of dentures for your needs, we always consider your comfort and satisfaction. We will work with you to achieve the smile you want and deserve.

How long will it take to get used to my dentures?

It can take a week or longer to adjust to new dentures. They may feel uncomfortable at first and even cause you to experience an increase in saliva. This is normal! It takes time for your oral tissues and facial muscles to adapt, but once they do, your dentures should feel very comfortable.

What if my dentures feel loose?

Loose dentures could be due to your oral tissues and facial muscles still adjusting to your dentures. If your dentures slip, reposition them by biting down and swallowing.

How does chewing work with dentures in?

Dentures require you to bite and chew differently. We recommend starting with smaller portions of food, eating slowly, and chewing on both sides of your mouth. It is easier to start with softer foods and to avoid hard or sticky foods in order to get used to chewing with your dentures.

Will dentures affect my speech?

When you first use your dentures, your speech may sound a bit different. Once your tongue, lips, and cheeks get used to the dentures, your speech should return to normal. To help improve your speech, try reading out loud to yourself as an exercise, and remember to speak slowly to prevent muffled speech. If speech issues persist, your dentures may need to be adjusted.

Should I remove my dentures overnight while I sleep?

The choice to wear dentures overnight varies from patient to patient. It’s important to note that it is healthy to remove your dentures for at least five to six hours per day to give the gums and other denture-bearing tissues the chance to rest and recover. However, this period when dentures are removed does not necessarily need to occur at night.

Can I use store-bought liners?

If you have problems with your liners, please call our office. Attempting to reline your dentures yourself can cause serious damage to your dentures and possibly result in mouth injuries. Our knowledgeable staff is here to fix and help with any issues with your denture liners.
